So the post by Milky with his "NO" speedo tag gave me an idea, what's Oppo's best speeding tickets (on four wheels), and what was the result?

Kinja'd!!!

Many years ago I was rolling across the desert on I-90 in my Cobra and after an hour of nothing in a straight line, decided to see how high I could set the cruise. Two lane highway in each direction with a wide grass median, dead straight, double digit miles in between exits it seemed like. Speedo went to 160, and turns out you could in fact set it on the limiter at 155, fun. Way up in the distance, you could just make out another car in the heat haze coming the opposite direction, so i clicked it off. Turned out that even at a mile or two out, when closing at over 200 mph, the other car and I passed each other rather soon. Also, turned out, it was a state patrol, who flipped on his lights as we passed followed by a tremendous cloud of dust in my rear view mirrors as he exercised the median and joined me in the eastbound lanes. Seeing as there was definitely no where to go on this one, I let it coast back down and pulled over and waited as he anxiously caught up. In hindsight, that was probably by far one of the best driving decisions in memory. I was hundreds of miles from home in the middle of nowhere on a 1500 mile trip no one else knew I left on, in a barren land that catching speeders is the only thing that paves the road. After an animated one-way conversion about how fast I was going, he finished wit with a few words of how there were no other cars, I stopped and waited, didn't take off into the countryside, nice new car, don't do this shit again. He showed me the "new" rolling radar system and how it would work off his speedo, how it showed 223mph (putting me at 148), don't do this shit again. Here's your 99mph ticket, enjoy being on your way. And don't do this shit again. Being way out of town I found a lawyer to handle it for me, it was expensive, paid him, paid the court and got it deferred, oh well.

I was returning to college. I had no place to stay but I had enough money for first and last and some to live on while I was trying to find a job and a place. I was couch surfing at my buddy's place while I was looking.

One night I was heading back from class down 128. I was doing ~85 in a 50. I was going around traffic but using my blinker and not cutting people off when I notice a pair of headlights keeping up with me. Just as I was thinking about how well this guy was keeping up with the blues come on.

Fuck.

I'd had my license under a year at this point (I'm a late bloomer ok!) I'm scared. Very scared.

Cop comes up to my window and he is pissed at me. He starts yelling at me and tells me, "Put that cigarette out when you speak to me son!" I meekly put out my cigarette. Apologized and handed over my license and insurance. He goes back to his cruiser and wirtes me a ticket for 29 over to the tune of $275.

Luckily I found a job and place in the next week because I ended up barely having enough dough to pay first and last.

I dont know yet, but i got whacked in virginia last weekend for 20 over, and i feel like this is definitely going to be it. luckily the cop didn't write me for reckless, because like you, i pulled over easy, was polite and admitted my mistake.

DONT SPEED IN VIRGINIA

I was pulled over by the same officer at the same spot two nights in a row.

Another time, I basically had to walk the officer through the process of writing a ticket. Apparently I received more than he had written in his career.

About 5 weeks before my 18th birthday, I was out with some friends in my mom's new Grand Prix. We had been out driving around that evening in another town and were headed back home. It was about 11:30 PM and I wanted to see how fast I could get the car on the 2-lane state highway I was on. I know I got somewhere up around 85 before getting a little scared and backing off. I settled down a little and slowed to just under 80. I noticed a car pulled off to the side with headlights on, but never thought twice about it.

I don't know how fast I was going when I saw the OSHP logo on the side of the cruiser, but I just decided that was it. I pulled over immediately, and I think I was already stopped by the time the cruiser got fully turned around.

She clocked me at 77, just inside the lowered speed limit of the little crossroads town we were going through (50 MPH). She gave me 5 MPH because I pulled over so quickly. I should add that 5 MPH kept me under the reckless driving threshold...so that was a solid.

When the court date came, the judge asked me what I had to say. I didn't dispute it, and told him "We were out in a new car, decided to head home, and headed home really fast." He laughed as he suspended my license for a month.

I was 17 and in a program where I helped teach abused kids at an elementary school near my high school, during 4th period. This girl used to ride to the same place and back with me. It was a pretty day, there was a cute girl in my passenger seat, and I had just got through completing the supercharger build. So I had fire in my veins and teenaged angst clouding my head. Just when she asked why my car sounded so different from the prior week an Audi S4 passed me up with a blip of the throttle, egging me on. Of course, I dropped down and caught him up. Just as I edged out passed him, we crested the hill where the officer was approaching. It was a divided road. the Audi driver went left, and being in the right lane, I went right. I should have gone left. But I pulled off into a neighborhood to shut it down and get the papers ready. The car was ticking and popping from the heat of the charged air. The gummy tires and carbon from the exhaust filled the air when the officer approached me. I had been pulled over many times before this but I always talked my way out of them. This was not one of those times. The officer gave me a good talking to and seemed to like me after we talked about cars for a minute. But He wrote me up for 65 in a 45.... I was in 4th so it should have been worse. Anyway, in Minnesota they drop your first charge before your 18 so I only got the speeding ticket, not the reckless. I ended up picking up trash for 12 hours over the next two saturdays. I learned my lesson, and I haven't gotten a ticket since. It was also foundational for my organization of principles I drive by when I have other people in the car vs. when it's just me.

He suspended you for a month for (as far as he knew) 5mph over?

I said that wrong. The trooper put me in a higher speed limit zone...I was in a 55 when she clocked me, but she was sitting in a 50. I didn't begin decelerating until I'd passed.

I lost my license for 22 MPH over.

I was 16 when I got mine. My girlfriend had just broken up with me so I was already in an angry mood when I came up on a ford explorer doing 30 in a 40 zone. As soon as I had the opportunity to pass I grabbed 2nd gear, red lined it and then floored it into 3rd. I happen to pass a speed trap at red line in 3rd which is 72 mph. Lights came on and I stopped immediately in the first pull off zone. The officer was nice and gave me a ticket for 64 in a 40 zone as in Missouri a 25 over is immediate license suspension.

I was cruising down the highway once in my '85 Camaro. Had the speedo wrapped around doing 10mph. I seen a car start to catch up with me and floored the throttle, that car backed off and a second or two later another car started to catch up with me, I just kept it mashed to the floor. Turns out they were both cop cars and when they asked me how fast I was going I replied "10?, I don't know it only goes to 85." The cop responded that both officers had clocked me at 105. They were in a pretty good mood. Wrote the ticket for 75 in a 55 - "because I used my blinkers very well." and let me go with that. It cost me about 400 in fines and attorney fees but never did show on my record.

Some of us have that gift it seems. A friend of mine picked up a car down south and delivered it up to the NW. He got 6 tickets in 3 days, two within an hour of each other in the same state, on his birthday.
